I got $5 on this being 2009’s numero uno recordo! (you heard it here first) After huge success at the Red Bull Music Academy concerts with Malcolm Catto & The Heliocentrics these cats hit up the studio quick snap and created this dope LP, Currently out now on Strut Records it’s described by some as “James Brown meets David Axelrod whilst smoking some good weed”.

Mulatu Astatke & The Heliocentrics, Inspiration Information Volume 3 is a solid collection of ethio-funk-jazz masterpieces, anyone with a good ear for production will certainly be feelin’ this. A killer vibe player and prahly one of the greatest jazz arrangers still walking around on his own feet Mulatu ain’t lost his edge.

(this photo deserves a funny caption, couldn’t think of anythin’)

Have a Listen to Esketa Dance from Information Inspiration. And if your ears tell your brain the right thing you will wanna hear Asiyo Belema from a 7″ found deep in the Cancut ethio jazz funk archives.

Check the Strut website and check em out or alternatively stop by here.

p.s. If I’m right on the best album thing I’ll be collecting that fiver off someone come Jan 1st 2010! Don’t make me get all Wayne Brady up in here!

[…] The 3rd in Strut Record’s brilliant series of Inspiration Information sessions, sees Ethiopian born, Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke team up with the mighty Heliocentrics (Stones Throw/Now Again) to record this platter in just one day. The kind of session that makes you wish you practised 5 hours everyday like your old piano teacher told you to… Like Dilla said,  Album of the year? […]
